Pablo Pagán, born in 2001, is a film director, writer and producer from Valencia, Spain.
At the age of 16, he directed and produced his first short film PAWNS: a look inside the Spanish Civil War, told through the eyes of Gen Z. Financed almost exclusively through crowdfunding, PAWNS screened at numerous festivals internationally, earning awards at the Valencia International Film Festival (Cinema Jove). PAWNS was also recognized as the "Best International Short Film" at the prestigious AAHSFF Festival in New York (the largest student film festival in the world), making it the first Spanish short film winner in the history of the event.
Next, Pablo directed, wrote and produced the critically acclaimed shorts MUNNA and THE GIRL WITH THE BLURRED FACE, which went on to screen at genre festivals around the world (CineFantasy Festival, LUSCA International Film Festival, Cinema Jove, Melrose Film Festival), earning the "Audience Award" at Quartmetratges and a "Special Jury Mention" at the Navarra Fantastic Film Festival.
Pablo is a recent graduate of Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC) in Barcelona, Spain. His thesis film VOYAGER, a blend of neo-noir thriller, female-driven character drama and fantasy, is currently on the festival circuit and has qualified for the Goya Awards (Spain's Academy Awards).
To date, VOYAGER has screened at some of the world's leading genre festivals (SITGES - International Fantastic Film Festival, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, Filmquest, Screamfest, Grossman Fantastic Film Festival, Fantasporto, Macabro: Mexico City International Horror Film Festival), as well as at several Oscar qualifiers (Indy Shorts presented by HeartlandFilm, Bogoshorts, Guanajuato International Film Festival, Norwegian Short Film Festival), earning "Best Short" at Screamfest, the "Audience Award" at the Landshut Short Film Festival, "Best Student Short" at Filmquest, "Ficus de Plata" at the Festival de Cine Sant Joan d'Alacant (Goya qualifying), as well as "1st Prize" in the Cortos Divinos Competition of the Spanish Film Academy.
Pablo has served as a programmer for the Manises International Fantastic Film Festival, and has been a member of the Young Jury at the prestigious Giffoni Film Festival.
He's currently developing his first feature film.
Pablo Pagán, nacido en 2001, es un director, guionista y productor de origen valenciano.
A los 16 años, dirigió y produjo su primer cortometraje PAWNS: una mirada dentro de la Guerra Civil Española, contada a través de los ojos de la Generación Z. Financiado casi exclusivamente mediante crowdfunding, PAWNS se proyectó en numerosos festivales internacionales, ganando varios premios en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Valencia (Cinema Jove). PAWNS también se alzó con el premio a “Mejor Cortometraje Internacional” en el prestigioso festival "AAHSFF" de Nueva York, el mayor festival estudiantil del mundo, convirtiéndose en el primer cortometraje español premiado en la historia del certamen.
Posteriormente, Pablo dirigió, escribió y produjo los cortometrajes MUNNA y THE GIRL WITH THE BLURRED FACE, que se proyectaron en numerosos festivales alrededor del mundo (CineFantasy Festival, LUSCA International Film Festival, Cinema Jove, Melrose Film Festival), ganando el "Premio del Público" en Quartmetratges y una "Mención Especial del Jurado" en el Festival de Cine Fantástico de Navarra.
Tras graduarse de la Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC), Pablo realiza VOYAGER como su Trabajo de Final de Grado. El cortometraje, una mezcla de thriller neo-noir y fantástico, se encuentra actualmente en el circuito de festivales, habiendo logrado la calificación para la próxima edición de los Premios Goya.
Hasta la fecha, VOYAGER se ha proyectado en algunos de los principales festivales de género del mundo (SITGES - Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, Filmquest, Screamfest, Grossmann Fantastic Film Festival, Fantasporto, Macabro: Mexico City International Horror Film Festival), así como en varios festivales calificadores a los Premios Oscar (Indy Shorts, Bogoshorts, Guanajuato International Film Festival, Norwegian Short Film Festival), ganando "Mejor Cortometraje" en Screamfest, el "Premio del Público" en el Landshut Short Film Festival, "Mejor Cortometraje Estudiantil" en Filmquest, "Ficus de Plata" en el Festival de Cine Sant Joan d'Alacant (clasificatorio para los Goya), así como el "1er Premio" en el Concurso Cortos Divinos de la Academia de Cine Español.
Simultáneamente, participa como programador en el Festival Internacional de Cine Fantástico de Manises, así como como jurado joven en el prestigioso Festival Internacional de Cine de Giffoni.
Actualmente se encuentra en proceso de desarrollo de su ópera prima.
